Tired of seeing other lawns with that deep, dark, green, plush look that you don’t have with yours? Trying to figure out how they achieved the color and what you are doing wrong?
Just like we have to take care of our bodies and give them vitamins and nutrients, we have to give our lawns nutrients too!
One of the essential nutrients is iron. When there is an iron deficiency it causes the turf to appear blotched with dark green grass with yellowish grass intertwined. Iron is an essential part of making chlorophyll, which is a chemical needed for photosynthesis. Another key is nutrient is Nitrogen, this will help promote the production of chlorophyll. Increase the chlorophyll and you enhance the green color you see. If your grass has too little iron it won’t be able to produce the amount of chlorophyll that the nitrogen has stimulated. There is a science behind it but you don’t have to be a scientist to achieve it! Make sense? It’s a little tricky we know. Don’t worry, there is a solution and you do have options!
Iron comes in both liquid and granular form but in most applications, it is applied as a granular which most people find the easiest.
As part of the North Georgia Lawn Fertilization and Weed Control program, we add a treatment of iron in mid to late summer in order to achieve a much richer, deeper green color throughout the rest of August and September. This application will make your lawn stand out to most of the other lawns in your neighborhood. It will also aid in any stressed areas of lawn for rejuvenation.
As always, it’s important to remember that the lawn management practices you give your lawn, including proper mowing, watering and fertilizing, will improve color, and root growth, thus giving you a beautiful lawn you can be proud of!
